Chapter 9

The day started off well with a light kiss on the lips from Maggie and the cry of “Show Time!” as she left the room. Holly watched her tight little buttocks twitch and thought that she too must look very similar in Ricky’s eyes. She gathered her clothes from where they had been scattered in the lounge, found her knickers next to Maggie’s laptop but didn’t put them on then snuck out of the suite for her own just down the corridor.

She showered, changed, tried to recall every moment of the previous evening including the dark hours when she was convinced that her short career was over. She smiled as she pulled her door closed, remembering that in a few hours she would be back and then the next knock on the door would be Maggie. On the ground floor she sneaked a reassuring look at the breakout rooms and was thrilled to see number 1 with its LCD screen fully functional showing the first meeting for the following day and scrolling feature which announced other sessions for that track. She had to admit that it was a beautiful sight.

She had breakfast in the nearest hotel restaurant and worked on her laptop and phone as she ate, thinking again how she should handle Sean when she met up with him and the rest of the team. Any in-depth discussion about how they had worked through the night had the potential to bring up emotions which might lead to tears and while it was unlikely, Holly didn’t want to take the risk. She texted Sean: PDS installed and fully functional. Leave all Speaker Ready room technology to me going forward.

Back in the main hall she met with the manager of the production company and they brought each other up to date with progress, agreeing to meet at midday for another check point. She found Andrea talking to the Catering Manager and joined their conversation, very pleased to see that she was in control of the event and already asking about potential issues that she had encountered on other occasions. At one o’clock she called Lloyd from her suite and brought him up to speed on the planning progress and the events of the previous night.

“Can you tell me what happened, Holly?”

“The PDS had been on the agenda for the past three months and I was accountable for getting it to the event. Sean was responsible for ordering it. He thought that was my job and so it didn’t get ordered. Maggie placed an order with a local firm and paid for it to be installed overnight.”

The line was quiet then Lloyd spoke. “Holly, for the past six years Sean has ordered that system and installed it himself but left the final config to the supplier. That’s what I and everyone else expected.”

“I’m sorry Lloyd, I did too but I should have double-checked that item, it was my fault and responsibility in the end.”

“Holly, Maggie said you saved the day.”

“What?” Her head spun with the words.
