The woman standing in front of me was a vision in every sense of the word. In a world filled with women who were so immaculate and so fantastically gorgeous I had thought they had been designed by horny tech guys in a factory somewhere, this woman stood out.

With long dark hair, deliciously golden skin, and oval eyes that seemed to shine as they stared at me, one look at this woman took my breath away. Her shape was a thing of beauty. Completely naked, it took all I could do to tear my eyes away from her ample breasts, her curved hips, and legs that any supermodel would have one green with envy over.

My eyes went wide, and my throat went dry. My entire body stiffened, a sensation that affected certain parts of my body more than others.

I swallowed hard as the name plate resolved over her head, labeling her as Queen of the Hive.

She moved toward me, fluid and graceful as her scent- sweet like honey- infiltrated my nostrils, tearing down whatever defenses happened to survive the look of her.

When I was younger, the whole ‘Twilight’ thing completely stupefied me. My sister was so enthralled by the vampire character, by the idea of a predator who was so gorgeous, you couldn’t help but pull for him. I remembered my sister literally swooning when she’d read those books. I also remembered her chirping with her stupid friends and being jealous of characters who, not only didn’t exist but would have been besieged by vampire if they did. That didn’t matter to those girls though. They wanted to be bitten by him. They wanted to be devoured by the monster. Now, looking at this perfect specimen of a creature, I finally understood what they must have been feeling.

Everything about the queen oozed sex. The way she moved, the way she stared at me, even the low buzzing noise she emitted as she neared me. It all melded together into a seduction so primal and so effective that I didn’t even mind the idea of being killed so much anymore.

She’d chop my head off. I knew that much, but maybe it was worth it. Maybe death was a price I was willing to pay for getting down with a woman like this. It certainly would have been the pinnacle of my existence.

I mean, it could only go down from here.

“Jack,” I heard Ember say in my head. “Jack, was that her? Is she with you right now?”

There was panic in his voice, and now I understood why. Fire breathing dragons and centipede monsters were one thing. Beating the shit out of scary monsters was easy, and even when it wasn’t, it was clear cut. I knew what the narrative was meant to be. I knew what I wanted. The goal was to survive. It was to cut something’s head off or rip its heart out; whatever I needed to do to survive.
