CHAPTER 13

The train coming from San Francisco, California arrived in Las Vegas, Nevada at 8:37am. It drove into the train station near Audrie Street and East Flamingo Road, slowing down with a squeal of metal wheels on tracks. It pulled up to a platform, where one-hundred or more people were gathered.

Everybody knew that something was wrong the minute the train arrived. The windows that would generally offer a view of the interior were covered in red, splatters of something dark and thick. Whatever the stuff was, it had quite obviously been there for a long while, as it was beginning to dry.

Those waiting on the boarding platform took a step back in unease, their faces, body language, and general demeanors shifting. It was like a herd of antelopes who’d sensed a pride of lions nearby. No one was sure what to expect, but everyone had a bad feeling settle in the pits of their stomachs as they stared at the darkened windows.

Then the doors opened.

That was when the stench hit them.

A pudgy young woman who had round cheeks, a strange-looking updo, wore far too much makeup, and was wearing a dark blue business suit with a skirt, was the first to scream out in terror as everyone there was given a glimpse of the train’s interior.

Others soon followed as they, too, saw the massacre that had occurred inside; the blood decorating the entire train car, the meaty chunks of human body parts that looked like they’d been tossed around the train, and the repugnant sweetness of rotting flesh. It was too much for them. Most people never even got to see a dead body, except at maybe a science exhibit that showed well-preserved cadavers. To see such a brutal and horrifying scene was more than the average citizen could handle.

Those who did not immediately lose their breakfast ran about in a panic, screaming, crying, and causing a large scene. Within the chaotic cacophony of symphonic voices crying out in terror, it was very easy for two people to slip out of the back of the train and stealthily move down the tracks completely unnoticed.

Christian, one arm wrapped around Lilith while the other held onto the guitar case carrying his weapons, moved swiftly along the tracks. He wanted to get as far away from the scene they’d left behind as fast as humanly possible. If anyone saw them there, looking like they did, they would have undoubtedly been arrested and brought in for questioning. At the very least, they would have drawn a lot of suspicion upon themselves.

They managed to sneak past most of the people on the platform via the train tracks. They soon found a set of stairs that could take them down to street level. This particular station was surprisingly small for a train station in Las Vegas, consisting of only two railways for trains to travel on, and two platforms for people getting on and off from. The trains themselves moved along a track that was raised
