Chapter Thirteen – Jane

As she opened the door to the room she’d called her own ever since she came to stay at Marshal Hall, Jane was thankful she’d always kept it tidy. There was no dirty laundry spread across the polished floor and no empty plates on the dresser.

The sheets were cleaned yesterday and if she remembered correctly, she’d worn pretty lingerie this morning.

However, as Guy followed her into the room and caught hold of her and began to undress her, she was certain he wouldn’t care if they were in a hovel dressed in rags.

Her arousal grew as he stared at her in open adoration. Who’d have thought she’d ever have a bear shifter in her room with the sole intent of claiming her?

Guy unbuttoned Jane’s knitted cardigan and threw it onto the wicker chair in the corner of the room. Hungry eyes devoured her body as he almost tore the buttons from her shirt as he stripped it off. A thrill of danger and excitement trickled down her spine.

Attempting to regain the use of her senses, which had short-circuited when they entered her room, Jane slipped her hands under the black jacket Guy wore over a button-up shirt and pushed it off his shoulders. It fell to the floor while she fumbled with his shirt buttons, which were not cooperating as she attempted to undo them.

She was out of practice, but more than willing to take a refresher course in how to strip the clothes off a man. Her man. Her mate. Jane glanced up at Guy as she tugged the final button free. Their eyes met and she saw her own deep desire for Guy reflected back at her.

Guy threaded his fingers through her hair and then lowered his lips to kiss her with a searing intensity. Jane placed her hands on his chest as her knees went weak. The effect he had on her was overwhelming and surprising. She wasn’t a young innocent virgin and yet Guy’s touch awoke parts of her she didn’t know existed. Her skin tingled, her heart raced, and her breath came in soft gasps as he tilted her head back and kissed her neck, before trailing his lips over the swell of her breasts.

Their connection went beyond the physical. As he pushed her pants down over her thighs, and then guided her toward the bed, it was as if they were linked spiritually and emotionally. Each touch, each caress strengthened their bond and her trust in him. She would willingly place her life in his hands and know he would protect her, and never hurt her.

Jane lay back on the bed as Guy straightened up and quickly discarded his pants. Standing naked before her, he was the most magnificent man she’d ever seen. Despite his age, he was in prime physical condition, his body toned, his skin taut. The only reminder of his age was the sprinkling of silver hairs over his chest, which matched those at his temples.

As he slid onto the bed beside her and she cupped his face in her hands, she realized that wasn’t true.
