Chapter Thirteen

I woke up the following morning with a headache and a hard-on.

If I had a dick, it would have been erect, and I touched my lips, remembering the night before. I giggled and pulled the covers over me— like even through the walls and my skin, anyone around would have been able to read me.

To see what Cole had done to me. I’d finally cracked him. We’d kissed. Hell, we would have done a whole lot more if Luna hadn’t interrupted.

Damn Luna!

I groaned and tossed the covers back angrily. And then I remembered it was Saturday. The chances of me seeing Cole were high, and all of my traitorous parts began throbbing at once.

“Lily, do you want to go to the carnival today?” Rose asked as she burst into the room.

“Rose?!” I cried in astonishment. “Privacy!”

She was wearing boy shorts and a tank, and she plopped down on the bed like I wasn’t just trying to chase her out.

“It’s not like anyone’s in here.” She shrugged. “So, do you?”

I made a low, guttural sound before I tugged the sheet back over my head. “I’m still sleeping.”

She giggled. “How old are you? Five? And they say I’m the immature one.” Rose laughed and yanked the covers back. “Come on. You know they aren’t going to let me go to the carnival all by myself.”

“So, don’t go,” I retorted and tried to reach for the covers again.

“But I want to,” she whined and held them back. “Please?”

Just then, my phone buzzed, and I slapped my palm over it and flipped it over. It was a text from Ella. I shuffled up in bed and opened the message.

Ella: We’re going to the carnival. Are you coming?

Ella: Wait, scratch that. Yes, you are. We’re gonna pick you up at two.

Lily: Lol. Fine. Sheesh!

I replaced the phone and forced a smile for Rose. “I’m going.”

“Yes!” she squealed, then her face froze. “Wait, did your ‘friends’ just tell you they’re going?”

“What’s with the air quotes?” I asked, trying to evade the question as I swung my legs over to the side of the bed.

“They did,” Rose said definitively and got up too.

“Does it matter?” I caught my rumpled hair at the top of my head and kept it in place with a hair tie. “I’m going. And that’s what matters.”

Rose shook her head in disappointment and walked out of the room, slamming the door as an expression of her anger.

“Hey! I can still not go!” I shouted after her. I was probably a lousy sister at that moment, but who would want to go to a carnival with just their sister? We didn’t even like the same things. She’d probably go on the rides and want to play games and eat cotton candy like she was five. I was more grown-up than that.

Last night flashed in my mind again, and I bit my lower lip. I was way more grown-up.

I hoped I’d see him, but where would we steal any time at a carnival? Maybe we could make out in his car.
