Chapter 20

The dark gray BMW's right-hand turning signal began flashing as it took Exit 34B into Michigan City.

The windows were darkly tinted, just like those of the Porsche SUV that followed behind it.

Dex and Big Tone were in the 750Li BMW.

Lamont and Hard Body were in the Porsche Cayenne.

“I came out here a few years ago with Karl and Skeet,” Dex said, paying close attention to the Google map on his phone as Big Tone drove. “When it's warm out like this, everybody goes to the beach. Lake Michigan. It's like a mini Thirty-eighth Street. Bunch o' bitches, bunch o' niggas. Shit be crackin', folks.”

Big Tone shrugged. It always took him a while to reply. He was like Benzino, a man without much of a neck, and his upper body looked far too heavy for his bottom half to support. He had a bald head and a frown that hardly ever left his bumpy brown face. He sipped from his bottle of water and finally nodded his fat head.

“We know for sure he out here somewhere. That's all that really matters,” Fat Tone said in his deep voice. “We'll find him. Can't be too hard to find him. He's too known. Niggas gon' talk about it when they see him. Shit, I need my cut of that hundred bands. That'll take care of my mortgage and Christmas, too.”

“Nigga, we got half a year till Christmas. I'm in trap mode. I'ma fuck around and spend that shit with Mone soon's he give it to me. Make this turn right here. We can go straight down to the beach. All we gotta do is park and holla at the hoes, show em a lil money. Somebody'll tell us something.”

Dex had two smartphones. He kept one on the maps and used the other to go to Instagram. He'd seen that D Boy and Deja were together on Baller Alert's page. They had been seen at a McDonald's here in Michigan City just a few hours earlier. He watched the video again but that was all he could do. There hadn't been any more updates on D Boy and Deja. He went to D Boy's page and didn't find anything of value. He went to Deja's page and saw that the fans were going wild about her and D Boy being a couple.

“We might as well let Lamont do the job,” Fat Tone said. “You know he shitty about his lil cous getting shot up like that.”

Lamont's younger cousin, Darius, was also one of the Haughville guys. Earlier he'd gone to D Boy's house to try getting the $100,000 for himself. He ended up with three bullets to the chest and a homicide charge when police caught up with him after the shooting. Darius Taylor was charged with killing some girl named Monica Spelling.
