CHAPTER 3

Evie didn't remember how they got to her apartment. She knew she had given them directions, but nothing had felt real since she bumped into Draden. He also hadn't stopped touching her in some way since then.

"You have a lovely place,” the alpha wolf was telling her. She couldn't remember her name. She also wasn't about to ask. There was no way that she was putting herself in a position to upset an alpha. It didn't matter what either of them said. "Is it alright if we sit?” The alpha seemed to be sensing her uneasiness and was doing all that she could to alleviate it.

"Mate, be calm.” Draden cradled her face between his large hands, his eyes staring deep in hers. "You are safe. Nothing will hurt you.” He touched his head to hers. She hated to admit that he did create an air of safety.

They all sat on her small couch, Draden at her side wrapping his arm around her and moving his hand up and down her arm. She figured he was trying to keep her calm.

"Why don't I tell you all that I know about omegas, and we can go from there?”

Evie nodded.

"We did not have one in my previous pack, but I remember my father speaking to my brother about them when he was preparing him to lead.”

That surprised her. If her brother was supposed to be alpha, why was she leading the pack?

“He told him that omegas are rare but honored. They are guarded in the pack and second only to a beta in the hierarchy,” she continued.

"They are so revered because unlike the rest of our kind, omegas can shift with or without a moon. They have complete control over their wolf."

“But I have no wolf,” she finally spoke.

She had never had a wolf. She had waited month after month when the time had come. Each month there was nothing. While her family ran with the rest of the pack, she had stayed at home crying herself to sleep. She had prayed, begged, and wished on every star in the sky for a wolf and still nothing.

Now this woman she didn't know was trying to convince her that she did have one. It was too insane to believe.

“An omega wolf isn’t a very dominant wolf,” she told her. “That isn’t to say that you are submissive. They simply are a calming force in a pack and extremely intuitive. I’ll bet that you always have a sense or feeling about things going on around you.”

Evie remembered how she had known this school was the one for her. How the moment she met Liz she had trusted her. She thought of people she had met while in school. How there had been a few that made her want to run in the opposite direction after a few seconds of talking to them.

"Then why have I never changed?” If this woman was right, she should have gone through the change when expected.

“I think that something might have held you back,” she told her.
