The pressure was mounting. Not just with my residency, but with denying my growing attraction to Trevor. The more I called him Dr. Wright, the more wrong it felt. The more I stood beside him and learned from him, the more I wanted to lean in and kiss him. Every day, I saw him. Every day, I gazed into his beautiful green eyes. Every day, I wondered what it would be like to tug him into the lounge or the janitorial closet and touch him. Kiss him. Feel him against me again. It was distracting, and borderline painful. My nights were spent with my hand between my thighs, trying so desperately to imagine him there with me.

And my mornings were filled with a loneliness I couldn’t bear.

“You need a night out,” Danielle said.

“What?” I asked.

“Girl, I can’t imagine how tough this shit is for you right now. And with the way you’re staring at him? I can tell you’re struggling.”

“Wait a second, you can tell?”

“I can because I know what’s going on. I don’t think it’s obvious to anyone else that you’re clearly imagining undressing our residency mentor,” she said, grinning.

I sighed heavily as she pulled me off into a corner.

“Look, you need a night out. A night to have some drinks and blow off steam. We can go after our shift, take an hour to ourselves, and then you can go home and crash. Just something to break up the monotony, yeah?” she asked.

And I didn’t have the energy to tell her no.

Our shift came and went, and we quickly got changed in the lounge. We stuffed our white coats away in our cars, and then I followed her to a bar just up the way from the hospital. Danielle kept talking about how she heard about this place from some nurses at the front station. How they had the best drink specials if we flashed our badges. But my mind wasn’t on her.

Because the second we walked into the bar, I saw Trevor with a couple of the hospital staff sitting at one end of the bar.

Of course he’s here.

“Fuck,” Danielle murmured.

“What was that you said about getting my mind off things?” I asked.

Trevor waved his hand at us, beckoning for us to join him.

“If we slip out quickly, we can find somewhere else to go,” Danielle said.

“Or, you could take this time to get in good with our mentor,” I said.

I peeked over at Danielle, knowing she’d never lose a chance to try and butter someone up.

“Fine. Okay. But only a few minutes. Just enough time to get a feel for where I stand with Dr. Wright,” she said.

Then, she tugged me over to where the three of them were sitting.

Trevor made room for me next to him, and Danielle sat between the other two male nurses. They were trading horror stories about the hospital and their own residencies. And I saw how the male nurses kept eyeing Danielle carefully. They were obviously attracted to her, and why wouldn’t they be? She was a bombshell.
