Chapter Seven
Ando could tell when Jules came out of the station something wasn’t right, even though she’d put on a brave face. He let her pretend, knowing sometimes a person needed time to wrap their head around whatever was going on. Hell, he was the king of wrapping his head around shit. Having her body pressed up behind his was doing crazy shit to his own, even with the slight pounding from the bang he’d taken to the head yesterday.
When he spied a scenic overlook sign, he signaled so they could stop and take in the view. He was sure she’d probably seen it all before, but he was new to the area somewhat and had yet to just stop and breath for the past six months. Hell, if he was being truthful he hadn’t done so in the past couple years. Not since before Melanie died.
The rumble of the bike eased until he came to a complete stop, then he switched the engine off, making the silence almost complete, save for the cars from the highway.
“How’re you feeling?” Jules asked from behind him.
Her hands were still wrapped tightly around his waist. He imagined them moving a little farther south and felt his dick jerk in agreement. He chuckled at his bodies reaction. “Not too bad. I don’t think I’ll need to be taking the pain meds every three to four hours anymore.” He lifted his helmet off, dangling it over one of the handle bars, content to sit with her still behind him, but turned so he could see her face over his shoulder. “Thank you for taking care of me last night.”
She smiled, unstrapping her helmet. “You’re welcome. You were a very good patient. I actually expected you to snarl and snap at me.”
Taking the helmet from her hands, he placed it next to his. “Why would you think that?”
Jules shrugged, looking off in the distance. Strain was written over her gorgeous features. He wanted to twist around and put her on his lap, but wasn’t sure how she’d react or how to achieve the maneuver without tipping them off the bike. “Speak to me. Tell me what happened back at the station,” he said instead.
Jules sighed, then got off the bike, her solid presence had him missing her. “It’s a long story.”
He watched her pace away, shoulders stiff. Long stories were his specialty. “I think I could match you story for story, and up you a couple.” Why he blurted that out he didn’t know, but the urge to pour his heart out to Jules kept him frozen in place.
“You think?” A gust of hot air whipped her hair over her face, but he could see the doubt.
Ando nodded. “I don’t think this is the place to talk though. I’m gonna need a comfy deck, and maybe some of those pain pills I said I didn’t need.” He got off the bike, needing to touch her. For a moment in time he wanted to hold Jules, wanted her to let him without hating him.
