“Will you sit the hell down?”

I stop, spin, and stare daggers at Misha. “No. I won’t. You don’t get it. I’m having a fuck of a day.”

“Seriously? Have you looked in the mirror? You look fucking gorgeous.”

“Stop it. I missed Paige’s fucking call while I was in the shower. She seemed annoyed on her voicemail. So I called her back and she didn't fucking answer. And then I realize I’ve put Alexander in a corner. Like I’m the one telling him what I want. Who the hell am I to do that? Oh, and if that’s not enough, he’s late.”

Misha stands up. She puts her hands out but knows better than to touch me right now. “Listen to me. First off, he’s not late. That stupid kitchen clock is always fast. Second, you’ll hook up with Paige. She called. She’ll call again.”

“What if she’s some bitch editor? Like she… you know… if you don’t answer the call, she moves on.”

“Do you really believe that?”

“It happens in movies.”

“Is this a movie?”

“No.”

“Then shut up,” Misha says. “Let all that go. And you didn’t put Alexander in a corner. He asked you something and you answered.”

“After we had sex.”

“Oh well. That’s his problem. He’s been all over your body for how long now? Make him pay up.”

“So I’m a whore then? He fucks me ten times and then buys me dinner?”

“Jesus, Kendall, you have this built up…”

The doorbell rings.

I jump and let out a squeal. I touch my face and take a deep breath.

“Get that,” I whisper.

Misha walks to the door and opens it. I try to look cool and beautiful. Like this is totally normal. A normal night in the city for famous writer, Kendall Farelein. You know, mingling with a billionaire. Letting him buy me dinner. Letting him fuck me until I can’t breathe.

“Holy shit,” I hear Misha say.

I spin around, fearing something wrong.

There’s nothing wrong.

Alexander is standing at the door. An all black suit grazes his entire body, looking too good of a fit to be real. And in his hand is the biggest bouquet of roses I’ve ever seen. His big hand can grip them all. It’ll take me both arms to cradle the beautiful flowers. They look like velvet.

“I guess this is for you,” Misha says.

She walks away from me, giving me a wink on the way.

I walk to the door and look at Alexander. “Hey.”

“Kendall, you look stunning,” he says. “I can’t… you don’t get it.”

“Make me get it, Alex,” I say. “I’m so nervous.”

He puts his free hand to my waist. Our eyes meet and I again feel that connection.

“You have no reason to be nervous,” he says. “I should be the one that’s nervous. Are you ready for our date?”

“I’m so ready,” I say.

I feel pathetic and I know I sound it. Like some hopeless girl that just won a contest or something.

Just as I told Alexander I wanted, there’s a black car outside. A driver stands there holding the door for us. Alexander helps me into the car and then the door closes.
