Chapter 5

Diana

After dinner, Talon and I sit on the loveseat again. His feet are propped up on the ottoman and mine are in his lap because it’s the only way to be comfortable on this small couch, and also because I like being close to him.

This time, instead of watching a movie, we’re both reading.

I’m reading a Paranormal Women’s Fiction Halloween anthology on my tablet, and I giggle at a scene in one of the stories.

“What’s funny?” he asks.

“Oh, I just like how the authors wrote this bit,” I reply, still not sure if he’s seriously interested in books.

“What authors and what is the scene?”

“Um, the story is by…” I check my tablet, “Ruby West and Ella Winters. And the guy in the story just got pranked.”

“I like a good anthology,” he responds. “They’re great for finding new authors.”

I blink at him and nod absently, unsure if this whole dialogue is really happening. It’s like a fantasy I never want to wake up from. I used to dream of finding a partner who shared my interests. Someone who knew how to have fun but was also just as content to sit quietly with me and read. But I never in a million years imagined I would find him, especially not in the Raging Angels MC.

After about an hour, Talon gets up to use the shower. I try to keep reading, but I’m extra distracted now at the thought of him naked in the next room. He’s sexy as hell, hung like a horse, cooks, and reads for pleasure. It’s like he’s seducing me and not even trying. I try to remember the reasons I have to say no—my brother, the MC—but it’s hard.

What about what I want?

Once he’s done, I slip into the bathroom to get ready for bed. I take my time, half-hoping he’ll be asleep when I come out, while the other half of me is waiting for him to barge in here and take me against the counter. But when I open the bathroom door in my pajamas, I find him propped up in bed with no shirt on, looking fucking delectable.

“I thought I could read aloud to you tonight,” he says, a book open casually in his lap.

“Oh, sure,” I concede. My skin tingles, and I can’t tell if it’s from nerves or excitement. The last day with Talon has been illuminating. Each new thing I’ve learned about him has broken down another bit of my resistance. At this point, it feels like a soft breeze will push me off the cliff and right into falling in love.

Pulling back the covers, I climb into bed beside him. He wraps an arm around me and picks up the book, and that’s when I see it’s the book from the shop, the one I recommended to him. I open my mouth to object, but his arm tightens and he starts reading before I can get a word out.

I always thought this book was incredibly sexy, but in Talon’s deep voice, it’s a million times hotter than when I read it myself.
