He’d made the stone hammer, using sharpened rabbit bones to sew green rawhide over the willow-stick handle before it dried tight.

Of his outfit, only his possibles and the broken rifle remained from the White world.

Beside him, Willow laced on her heavy travel moccasins, made from a buffalo he’d killed and prayed over.

Fletch and Jonas were already saddled up, their outfits little more than the blanket rolls behind their saddles and possibles hanging from their shoulders.
