Keith Mason opened his eyes as he heard Jill Jackson stir. In those few moments of awakening, while his thoughts were still doped by sleep, he noticed a strange, unpleasant smell in the air. He struggled to sit up just as the woman's scream pierced the room. He leapt out of bed, his thoughts still slow. He fumbled for his spectacles and stubbed his toe. Holding his foot and cursing, he hopped to where the naked woman stood, pointing to her overnight bag. His pain disappeared and his mouth dropped open in utter disbelief.

The bag lay open on the thick carpet, her neatly folded underwear lay on top, and in the middle of a particular sexy number she had worn the previous night was a small pile of fresh shit. Poking out of it, facing his way, mostly obscured by the dump, was the grinning face of his Rolex wristwatch.

Mason wrenched his gaze away and glanced first at the hole left by his wallet, then at the empty jewel box on the dressing table.

‘The mother-fucking cock-sucking cunt bastard fucking wanking bastard son of a bitch! I'll fucking tear his fucking throat out! I'll fucking kill him!’

Some seventy yards away, in the next house, an elderly couple enjoying a leisurely breakfast of grapefruit and boiled eggs over their shared Guardian newspaper heard almost every word. He lifted a blown white eyebrow and she licked a fleck of yoke from her delicate lips.
