I am sitting in the back-corner booth of Sweet Tea, waiting for Steph and Amelia, when Jake walks in. He doesnât see me sitting there so I take the moment to just gaze at him. My eyes travel up and down his well-toned body, over the muscles that are hiding under his shirt that just hours ago I was running my hands over. With a sly smile, I decide to do something that I would never have done before.
Me: Your ass is looking good in those jeans Woods.
I watch, fascinated, as he takes his phone out of his pocket to read what I had just sent. Looking at his phone, his lips curl up into a smile and then his eyes roam over all the tables until he finds me. His eyes lock with mine. His eyes sparkles and he gives me a slow wink. My heart stops for a moment and I put my head down, trying to contain my laughter. I hear my phone ding and I pick it up, waiting in anticipation for what he sent me.
Jake: That wasnât the outfit you were wearing when you left the house this morning.
Me: Itâs not the outfit I will be wearing when I come over tonight either.
Jake: Make sure you pack light. I have plans for us, St. James.
I laugh again. Shaking my head. For a moment I thought he was going to make his way over to me but just at that moment, David walks through the door and right on his heels, throwing a fit, is Steph.
âI donât think you get it, Mr. Turner.â Steph is pissed, you could hear it in her voice. âShe is not going to just accept this. I highly doubt he will just accept it.â
David turns around and looks at her, hatred dripping from his voice. âI donât know who you think you are, Ms. Carter, but I can assure you itâs already settled. Now please leave me and my client to eat in peace. Donât you have a manicure to get or something?â
That wasnât good. I am waiting for her to blow up at him, but Steph just turns with a huff and starts toward me. I can hear her grumbling as she gets closer.
Jake turns his full attention to David, but I catch him looking at me every so often. I smile as Steph gets closer.
âI swear that man is stupid, or an idiot. Maybe heâs a stupid idiot,â she says, sliding into the booth.
I just look at her for a moment. Her skin is slightly pink as if she is blushing. She fans herself for a moment while she talks.
âAnyway,â she begins. âWeâre not here about me, weâre here about you.â
âThink of something else to say to him?â I ask as I catch her in the act of looking at David.
âHeâs just so fun to get worked up. Iâve never met someone I want to rile up as much as I do him. Make him lose some of that shine.
