“My father won’t like this,” Kairo said after he pulled out of me and set me on the ground.

I leaned back against the tree and cursed him for this, for all of this. Alpha Kairo marked me, but the look on his face told me that it was just the heat of the moment, that he didn’t mean to do it, that he wished he could take it back.

When Kairo didn’t say anything, I pulled myself away, grabbed my bikini, and tied it onto my body to hide my breasts from him. “Forget it. I should’ve fucking known that my mate was a coward.”

Before I could leave him, he snatched my wrist and pulled me back to his body. “I’m not a coward. I’m thinking.” He grasped my jaw in his hand and pulled me closer. “I told you that I don’t want to hide you anymore. I want this; I want you; I want an us.”

Kairo grabbed my hand tighter and pulled me toward the fire. “Come on.”

Kairo walked with me all the way back to the bonfire, where his beta, his father, and all the elders were still sitting and shit-talking.

“Harper is my mate,” Kairo announced before anyone could comment about us holding hands. “I will have her and only her as my mate.”

One of the elders chuckled. “Don’t be silly, boy. She doesn’t have alpha blood.”

Kairo growled and stepped closer to him. “I don’t give a fuck if she has alpha blood or not,” he said, canines emerging from under his lips.
