I woke a few times during the night, reaching for Lorcán to assure myself that he was still there and hadn’t snuck away to try and solve this case on his own. Each time, I found him still beside me, and each time, we made sweet, unhurried love where I learned all the places he loved to be touched and he learned all the ways to make me moan.
I don’t recall what time I fell asleep for the final time before waking up again in the middle of the afternoon the next day. I hated to shower Lorcán’s scent off my body, but I didn’t want to share it with anyone else. I would be the only one to wear his cognac and citrus scent on my skin from that day forward.
When I went downstairs, Silas was in the kitchen with the girls, carrying on a conversation. There was something different about the man, something less… offensive. His hair was the same, as was the cocky expression on his face. So, what was different? Then it hit me. “Oh my God! Are you wearing D’s clothes?” I asked in shock as I looked over the charcoal-gray Henley with its sleeves rolled up to reveal surprisingly thick forearms and black cargo pants.
“You couldn’t possibly expect me to wear the same suit two days in a row,” Silas responded with a dramatic eye roll. “I hardly wear the same thing more than once in a lifespan let alone the same week. These,” he said, gesturing to his borrowed clothes, “were the best I could find. I look ridiculous.”
Meggie let out a little sigh that had Silas sitting up straighter in his chair. I glanced over and noticed that our feisty redhead was fixated on those strong arms and hands that held a cup of coffee in front of him. “You actually look better,” she said softly. “More approachable.”
“Would you like to approach me, kitten? I won’t refuse you.” That shook her out of her trance, and she turned pink for the second time in so many days. Silas only winked before taking another sip of coffee. “Mmm. This is the best coffee I’ve ever had. Who made this deliciousness?”
“I did,” Vixen said proudly.
I suspected she was joking until I walked over to the pot left on the warmer. I carefully leaned over the pot and the aroma was strong enough to singe my nose hairs. Yep, Vixen had made it. I just shook my head and returned to the table. “How soon can you do another séance?” I asked Silas.
“I woke up ready to go,” he replied, leering at Meggie. “I was just waiting on you, hunter.”
I had a decision to make: wait for Lorcán, Roland, and Alex to wake or conduct the séance and tell them what we learned.
“I need to return home within the hour to handle a few things so I can return to train this one,” Silas said gesturing to Vixen. “I can’t promise you that I can return this evening, and it would seem that your neck is on the chopping block.
