Chapter Six

Marissa

“I'm sorry, that took longer than I expected. I hope you ate.”

“I did. It was very good, thank you. And since I accepted the fact that this wasn't a dream, I gave in and took a nap.”

“Good. So, since you love the waterfall in your dreams so much, I thought I'd show you the one we have here. We can't swim in it, but it's still beautiful.”

“Alright. Lead the way.”

“What have you been told?”

“Well, I know you're a dragon, and it's tradition for the dragon king-to-be to kidnap.”

“Don't use that word.”

“Why not? It's what you did.”

“You came in here on your own two feet.”

“It was still under false pretenses. I thought I was dreaming. I was more than willing to share my dream with you, to get lost in it, but that was when it was a dream, not reality,” Marissa argued.

“Isn't it better that it is reality? That you don't have to ever worry about waking up when it's getting good.”

“Maybe, but I haven't decided if this one is a dream or a nightmare yet.”

“Fair enough. So, is there anyone you'll particularly miss?”

“My best friend, Jerri. We've been best friends since grade school; I wish I could share this secret world with her.”

“I'm sorry, it is forbidden. The queen must lose all contact with the outside world,” Aegeus answered somberly.

“Could you teach me how to enter her dreams? I want her to know I'm ok.”

“Only dragons can do that. Now, look down,” he said as they approached the wall. She peered over the edge and saw the gushing waterfall. It was like a maze of water; the head of the falls was the mouth of a dragon, and it flowed down the side of a rocky cliff for hundreds of feet to crash into a pool way below.

“Oh, wow, it's beautiful. How do we get down there?”

“The only way is by a dragon.”

“Will you show it to me, your dragon form?”

“Soon, but now is not an appropriate time.”

“So, what is expected of me, as your queen?”

“To help me rule my kingdom, to bear my children.”

“And what do I get in return? You're asking a lot of me. You took me from my home, my life, from the people I love.”

“Riches and power beyond your imagination; what else do you want? If there is something from your world that you desire, name it, and I'll send a scout to fetch it. Do you want a dog? You can have as many as you want. Do you want clothes, jewelry, shoes? You can have it all.”

“I want my dream.”

“Your singing dream?”

“Yes.”

“We can make that happen. I would love to hear you sing and play. We can build you a stage in the castle, and you'd have a captivated audience.”

“You would do that for me?”

“Yes. I know it probably won't be the same thing, but it's what I can offer. I can also offer my loyalty, my devotion, and I will never hurt you. I will never let harm come to you.
