Eagle

Eagle waited in her room while she showered, looking around and trying to learn more about the girl that captured his heart, even if she wouldn’t admit it. He was planning to take her near Lonely Gull Bridge where the accident happened and explain everything. The accident, the name change, the deaths, and the horrible aftermath. If he wanted a future with her, he knew he needed to tell her the truth. He just wasn’t sure how she’d handle it. The accident impacted the entire Madison family in so many ways, and he felt to blame for that. Admitting it to Sedona seemed like a mistake, but not admitting? Everything would surely end in ruin.

He had only had one serious girlfriend in his life, and he had not been the picture of a perfect boyfriend. He and Everly had started dating in high school, but parted ways before college started. They had maintained their friendship, but Everly ran as soon as she heard the news about the accident. She told him it was the last straw and refused to believe anything he had to say. He could handle the betrayal from the others, but her betrayal was harder to accept.

After losing everyone he cared about, he consumed himself with school and work and the occasional party where he stood off to the side brooding. Sedona reminded him of Everly in a lot of ways, but also scared the hell out of him because she was so different. She was strong and resilient, and even though he continued to come to her rescue, she didn’t need it. But what struck him the most was her inability to realize just how resilient she was. Her parents had sheltered her for so long, and her personality was finally starting to shine now that she had room to breathe, and he was here for every second.

Sedona walked back into her dorm in short jean shorts that showed off his favorite feature—her long tan legs, and a white shirt that drooped off her shoulder to give a peak of a red bikini top. Her shirt was almost see through, but he couldn’t see more than the solid red outline against her perfect breasts.

“Well, you clean up nice.” He grabbed her hand and spun her around to get a better look before pulling her in for a hug.

“I’d say the same, but you don’t look any different.” They laughed as they walked out of the dorm and towards Eagle’s Jeep, which was parked at his shop.

“Ready for a fun day at the lake?”

She nodded her head and grinned at him. The weather was still hot as they were nearing the end of August. It was starting to get cooler in the evenings and a jacket was definitely needed in the mornings, but as the sun shone down during the day, it was still perfect weather to take the boat out.

As Eagle pulled into the driveway, Sedona leaned over gazing up at the house. Eagle had inherited the house when his mother passed away.
