I CHECKED OUT my appearance in the bathroom mirror while I straightened my tie. I saw a brightness and alertness in my eyes that I’d not seen in a while, if ever. It wasn’t because I got a lot of sleep either, because I stayed up way too late the night before such an important meeting. I had no regrets, except that I slept alone when I finally went to bed. Chase didn’t sleep alone, he got to sleep with the stuffed monkey. I grinned at my reflection when I realized how envious I was of a stuffed animal.

I was falling fast and hard, but was it too fast and too hard? Only time would tell.

Normally, I’d be a fucking train wreck the morning before a big campaign pitch, and none had ever been as important as this one. I threw up before I made my initial pitch to Heston’s entry level marketing division employees who held absolutely no decision making capacity. They just listened and passed the info along to the next level, who I was scheduled to meet with later that morning. So, why was I feeling so damn confident and calm? I checked my appearance one last time and went in search of Chase.

I found him sipping coffee on the balcony while he reviewed the marketing materials one last time. Room service had just delivered our breakfast before I came outside. Once I was seated, we dug into our food and discussed the meeting one last time. I found myself struggling to focus on the conversation. Instead, I remembered every sound of pleasure Chase made the night before and early the next morning and wondered how long before I could make him do it again. Lack of focus had never been an issue for me, in fact the opposite had always been true. My usual self would be so focused on the campaign that I wouldn’t even know Chase was present. There were times I was a downright dick to those around me, especially Devon.

My phone chimed with an incoming text. I laughed when I saw it was from Preston asking me how I was feeling and if I had puked, yet. I fired back that I’d never felt better or more confident. Then I demanded new pictures of my princess.

“What’s so funny?” Chase asked me.

“Pres wants to know if I’ve been puking yet this morning.” I looked up and saw confusion on his face. “I normally am a nervous wreck before these meetings, which usually results in a bout of vomiting.”

“What’s different this time?”

“You’re here.”

“Gray, you’re making it really hard to be good,” Chase said in a sinfully seductive voice.

I reached out and cupped his jaw in my hand. “Someone recently told me that being good is overrated.” I checked my watch and saw that we needed to head downstairs to the executive wing of the hotel. “Kiss me for good luck,” I demanded right when we reached the door to our suite.

Chase didn’t hesitate, which I took as a good sign.
