Delila wasn’t sure what more she could do. She’d pushed at the air, chanted for her ward not to go toward the car, but some things must unravel themselves for the living. She was surprised when a spirit from the in-between world caught her energy and floated out. He could not see her wide-winged presence, but she knew he had spotted Regan’s spirit. His spirit had lurked in the French Quarter for many hundreds of years, and Delila knew this soul favored Regan. His energy force was lost and his presence was waning. He’d spend eternity hiding and then searching for the hidden light. In an indirect way, Delila might lend him a hand.
