Chapter Ten: The Island

Connor began to pack things away once he finished making his sandwich. Tanya was about to stop him and ask him to make her a half of one when the words caught in her throat. As he turned to put the mayo back in the fridge she saw marks on his neck. Marks that looked an awfully lot like hickeys. Hickeys she didn't put there and she knew Brent didn't. Was Connor screwing someone else? If he was did she even have a right to be upset by it? Suddenly Tanya realized how things could go wrong in a relationship like this one. She began to read into what they were just discussing. Were they even in a relationship or was Connor just their fuck buddy?

“Are those hickeys on your neck?” Tanya asked trying to play it off as just surprised curiosity. Connor looked confused for second before he answered.

“Oh, yeah we started playing a round of Truth or Dare at the party,” Connor said as he finished putting away the food. It took Tanya a moment to snap out of her mental paranoia. She walked pass Connor to reopen the fridge. She didn't feel up to pulling everything back out so she settled for the box of strawberries. Placing the box on the counter she turned back to look at Connor who had already begun to eat his sandwich.

“You mean someone was dared to do that?” Tanya held her breath, selfishly hoping it wasn't some hot young girl, but also knowing there were no other possibilities. It didn't help that Connor looked down at his sandwich sheepishly when she asked and spoke softly when giving his response. Don't tell me it was more than one hot girl!

“What, are you ashamed or somethin',” Tanya asked in spite of herself. Connor looked at Tanya and then began to look a little too interested in his sandwich.

“Was she monster ugly or something?” Tanya once again pried. Connor let out a heavy sigh.

“Yes, I would say he was monster ugly. Happy? I have to wear these marks around and they're not even from an ugly chick. Just some large hideous dude. Now, every time I look in the mirror, I have to remember his mouth on my neck, until gods know when they fade. Remind me to not to drink tequila because seeing two girls make out was not worth it,” Connor finished his ashamed rant.

Tanya couldn't stop herself from laughing out loud. Part in relief, part because she imagined Connor embracing some big guy as he sucked on his neck. She couldn't believe he succumbed to the age old female trick. She remembered the times when her girlfriends and her would promise a “show” only to get their guy friends to commit acts of indignity. Tanya reached over a patted Connor on the shoulder.

“Poor baby,” She said in a pouty voice. “Well when those clear up, and you sanitize your neck, maybe I can create some new, non-scarring memories.” Tanya plucked a strawberry from the box and bit into it.
