Chapter 3

The Black Cat Burglar

Wyatt was rubbing his temple, trying to escape a headache from a relatively sleepless night, when the knock came on his door. Groaning, the young man stood, wondering who would possibly be looking for him. The only person he was chummy with in town was Nicole, and he would hope that she was smart enough not to pull a stunt like the one she had before so soon. In any event, he looked like shit, so if it was her, maybe the sight of him running on two hours of sleep and a pot of coffee would cool her jets slightly.

Glancing in the mirror, Wyatt ran a hand over the day's worth of stubble that marred his usually immaculately groomed beard and mustache. He was wearing only a dirty muscle shirt that exposed the smoking gun tattoo he'd gotten on impulse in college (Josh had one in exactly the same place), as well as the scar from the dislocated shoulder he'd gotten while caving a few years earlier. He was ill groomed and unkempt – and fit to bellow any visitors off his doorstep.

Oddly enough, however, there were none.

When he opened the door, there was no one there. Frowning, he looked over the length of the porch and down the front walkway. The sidewalk as well as the road beyond was totally deserted. Sighing in aggravation, the former teacher decided that it must have been a prankster before he glanced down and noticed that the welcome mat he'd meticulously placed just beyond the threshold of the cottage was crooked.

Arching a brow, Wyatt bent to flip back the cheap material.

Beneath it, he found a set of five keys on a key ring, along with a note written in a looping female hand.

Ten o'clock tonight. Any entrance you choose.

The double-entendre had him instantly hardening in his pants.

For a moment, he stared at the keys.

Was he really going to do this? What if the mayor was still home and the girl was just setting him up to play right into her hands? He could hardly stand another debacle like the one in Marin County.

And yet...Nicole had always seemed pretty up front about what she wanted. If this was just another in her list of fantasies, why would she sabotage it? Reaching down, the young man took the key ring in his hands before replacing the mat and re-entering the house, closing the door behind him.

Once inside, Wyatt tossed the keys on the table, drawing his hands over his face – as he usually did when he was trying to think. This girl had him quite literally by the balls and she knew it. He could refuse to play into her hands and risk her exposing him to the entire town, or he could go along with her and risk being busted by the mayor himself.

How did he get himself into these damn complicated situations?

Still...the idea that she would be waiting for him, quite possibly naked, ready to let him do anything he needed to get her to squirt all over him and her bed all night.
