“Are you sure about this, Mona?” my cousin Ricky asked me for the third time that night. “I mean, you don’t have to be here. We could’ve taken care of this without you.”

“No, Ricky. I have to see this through.”

We were waiting in the shadows for our target to arrive. The night was chilly and a light wind sent goosebumps rippling along my flesh. My heart pounded with anticipation and I debated my actions, but I wasn’t going to back out. The things that Jessica had done to me were not to be taken lightly. This wasn’t about Scott, this was about making sure Jessica wasn’t a threat to my life, Scott or no Scott. And she had threatened me, twice for that matter. The fact infuriated me like no other; I had done absolutely nothing to this woman and she had attempted to sue me, blackmail me, and soil my reputation simply because she couldn’t get her way.

It was unforgivable.

The parking level we were on was basically empty, save for a few empty parked vehicles. When Jessica’s car arrived, the sound of the luxury engine purring filled my ears and nearly overtook the sound of my heavily beating heart. The white sedan slowed to a halt in the middle of the parking lot, the driver turned off the engine, hopped out, and made his way to one of the exits. Jessica swung her head around and yelled after her chauffeur.

“Hey! Where are you going?! Get right back here now!” The chauffeur ignored her and disappeared from view. While she was watching him leave, my crew and I made our presence known. There were about twenty of the biggest meanest looking thugs from my old neighborhood dressed in black clothing and ski masks.

All black everything.

With guns.

We walked up to her out of the darkness into the rays of fluorescent lights flickering overhead, and surrounded the car. Her eyes widened in terror and she scrambled to lock the doors. I tapped on the window with a gloved hand.

“Unlock the door Jessica, and step out of the car,” I commanded.

She shook her head from side to side frantically, refusing to step out of the vehicle. I nodded and Ricky, my cousin, lifted the nose of a sawed off shotgun and pointed it at a very frightened Jessica.

“Get your ass out of the car. I won’t tell you again,” I said firmly.

Jessica stumbled out of the car dressed in white, twisted on her ridiculously high heels, and fell to her knees. She was whimpering and blubbering, tears streaking her makeup which had at one time been perfect but was now a mess of smeared mascara, foundation, and blush.

I had no remorse, no sympathy for her. “Don’t you dare cry!” I snarled, my patience depleted. She made an attempt to stop crying, but only started hiccuping instead. “Look at me, Jessica.” She peered up and around at all of the men surrounding her as she trembled on her knees. Finally, she dared to look at me.
