CHAPTER 29

“Thank you, Major, I have finished my call. Tell me, if you want to make manuals and copies, can that be done?”

“Yes sir.”

“That is good to know for later.”

“Carl, what have you done?”

“Did you say something, Major?”

“No, sir.”

“Carl, its Maygor; speak with your mind, not with your mouth.”

“This is weird; this is our first thought chat.”

“What have you done, Carl? I felt a shock wave of surprise and then of wonder.”

“I had a call put through to Jarvis in North Base and asked him for what we had talked about, and then I asked him for one more thing.”

“What the hell was it, to set things off like that?”

“I asked if he would set up a council of spiritual elders. He went very quiet then said he would get back to us.”

“Well I think you and I are in trouble; the best thing we can do is get out to the dome, do the work, and hide.”

“Good morning, Jim, are we set to start today?”

“Yes, Boss, fifty days of hard work. Well, we are both here until we finish.”

“No news for a week, Maygor; we are in trouble.”

Well we asked for a lot and it seems we have gone too far this time. If they send us back home at least now we have each other; we did not have that before.” “Yes, we could do a lot of good for a lot for people on the floes. We have six more weeks on this before we have to make a move.”

“They will not send you back, Boss.”

“How… never mind. The gossip vine in this place is the best there is.”

“We know the first part of what you asked from Central Office staff, the word out side is that them up above have been asking questions. They like the apprenticeships for all; not everyone can be in Command. They love the garden section and they were chuckling at what you let the kids do in the dome. We do know that there is a big meeting in North Base with many of the elders it has been going on for three days already.”

“We have upset them they do not know what to do with us now. Jim, we carry on; let us know if you here anything more.”

“Six weeks and one more day left until we finish. Three weeks, and we still have had no word from above. There is not much we can do, is there? Mackie, what are you doing here?”

“I have got something for you both to see, Boss. I think you should suit up and come with me for a demo. Your new toy, Boss.”

“Not mine, Mackie. I gave you the ideas but you went and made it. Just a minute please. Jim, do something for me. Put the word out that Mackie’s done it again. You will soon know what; just do it for me, please.

“OK, lets go for a ride, shall we, Mackie? What have you called it?

“Big Berty.”

“OK, what do we do?”

“Just press that button and steer the thing.
