As you go through this learning process, do not assume that you will never get angry. Remember that some anger is rational and understandable. Anger is a legitimate emotion with legitimate causes and consequences. However, by combating your distorted thinking, you will be able to avoid much of your irrational and unwarranted anger.

Along with preventing unnecessary and maladaptive anger, angry men need methods to diffuse anger when it does arise and prevent themselves from acting in destructive ways. They need methods to put the genie back in the bottle once it has escaped. Read on-in the next chapter, I'll discuss methods for controlling yourself once you have become angry.
