"Prescott's son?" Donna echoed a few minutes later as Rani got off the phone. "How did he find you?"
"Said he finally remembered that I had a sister in Albuquerque. When he got into town, he called your answering service and they told him you might be at this number."
Donna's mouth curved apologetically. "I'm sorry, Rani. I'll have a word with the service. They certainly had no right. . ."
"It doesn't matter," Rani sighed. "After all, Gage had already found me."
"True. And if he can't persuade you to go back, I somehow doubt Brady Prescott will do it!" Donna chuckled. "Prescott must be livid by now. He thinks you seduced his son?"
"He's probably angry enough by now to accuse me of just about anything, but in his more rational moods I don't think Prescott would go quite that far. He just thinks Brady was a little too much under my influence. Aaron is a little old-fashioned," Rani muttered vengefully. "He thinks it's very dangerous for a man to be too much under the influence of a woman. Especially the man who is slotted to inherit Prescott Services, Incorporated."
Donna looked thoughtful. "Why did you give Brady your address?"
"Why not? As I said, I've already been tracked to my lair. What does it matter if Brady finds me, too?" Rani's mouth twisted in a brief parody of a smile.
"Why does he want to see you?"
"My guess is that he'll do the same thing Gage is trying to do: tell me to go back to Prescott Services. I have a hunch Brady is looking for a face-saving way back into the firm. If I return with him, he'll be able to convince himself it's all right to back down in front of his father on this issue. If he has to go crawling back alone and admit he's too weak to stand on his principles . . ."
Donna nodded. "I get it. You're the offended party, and if you back down, it won't look so bad for him to agree to accompany you back to Dallas. Not his fault the little woman gave in to pressure."
"Something like that. Probably." Rani considered that. "The boy may have more of his father in him than I first thought!"
"Well, I'm sure this is going to be a fascinating confrontation, but frankly, I think I'll excuse myself. I still have a business to run." Donna rose gracefully and carried her cup over to the sink. "I'll see you later, Rani. Give Gage a call if Prescott junior gets too annoying."
Rani frowned. "What good would that do? Gage wants the same thing Brady does. Have you forgotten? He wants me back in Dallas, too!"
"Somehow," Donna declared as she walked out the door, "I have a hunch Gage would rather do his own convincing."
She was gone before Rani could demand an explanation. With a disgusted sigh, Rani closed the front door and went back into her kitchen to clean up.
Less than forty-five minutes later Brady Prescott was ringing her bell. When she opened the door, she found his handsome features set in lines of grim concern.
