Chapter 3

That night after cleaning up from his session with Zach, Baby snuck out of his apartment. Certainly he felt that he could've left his room if he wanted to, he just didn't want to have to explain it. Baby Boy wanted a night on his own where he could just be himself without Rex around.

Once he had tip-toed down the walkway and stairs, he took the long way around the building to the bus stop. He was sure that the watcher could see him, but he was also sure that the watcher didn't care much what he did.

Again dressed in his best tee-shirt and jeans, he headed back down to The Top Hat. It was the first place Rex had ever taken him and it was still the only place he knew. But unlike the last time he visited, this time he knew what he had to do to get in.

Approaching the bouncer he folded a hundred dollar bill and placed it in his palm. When close enough to shake hands, he stretched out his hand with the bill and subtly passed it off. Inside, it was the same with the bartender. The bartender was the one that had arranged for his first $1000 job and he expected a cut in exchange. That $200 was laid out on the bar with an order of his usual, a Sloe Comfortable Screw.

The drink arrived with an invitation.

"Looking to meet anyone tonight?" The bartender asked.

"Depends on who," Baby Boy answered more full of himself and his power.

"Third table from the wall."

Baby turned to look as he sipped his drink. The man looking back was in his late forties or early fifties. He had a mustache that screamed "gay".

"I don't know," Baby Boy replied turning in response to the phone ringing in his pocket. The bartender waited as Baby stared at the display. The call was from Rex. As he decided whether or not to take it, it went to voicemail. Baby then returned it to his pocket and faced the bartender.

"He pays well and doesn't ask for much back, so I hear," the bartender explained.

"What's well?"

"$500. I hear he's fun too. I don't know what that means though."

"Fun huh?"

Baby Boy spun back and examined him again. Baby wouldn't have referred to him as handsome, but his brown complexion was something that did turn him on. Baby liked the way brown contrasted with his own fair skin. Baby had kept hoping that one of his clients would have been a black man, but as of yet none of them were.

"OK," Baby said spinning back around.

"A hundred?" The bartender asked negotiating for himself.

"OK, next time."

Baby took his drink across the room sliding into the booth with the man.

"Hey, I'm Baby Boy," he said confidently.

"I know," the man replied with a smile. "I'm Carlos. You want to get out of here?"

"Where do you want to go?" He asked trying to figure out how he could slip him in past Rex.

"How about to a club? You feel like dancing?"

This wasn't a response that he was ready for.
