Chapter 5

Izzy

Liam drives us back to the parking lot and walks me to my car. Since we’ve left Cassie’s party, he’s been a complete gentleman. I hardly know what to expect. Is he serious? Is he playing with me? It’s like there’s two Liams—the professional who is a little bit of an asshole, and the oldest son who is a flirty gentleman who loves his family.

“Are you okay to get yourself home?” There is real concern in his voice. We’re standing next to my car, his hand on my waist.

“I’ll be fine.” I find myself looking anywhere but at Liam’s face, my gaze nervously darting around. “I had a good time, but I’d better go. I’ve got things to do, people to see, and I’m low on lubricant.” Great. Now, I’m babbling.

“Izzy.” Liam whispering my name sends shivers down my spine. He gently lifts my chin with his knuckle so I’m looking into his warm blue eyes. “I had a good time too.” His gaze moves over my face. “God, you’re beautiful.”

I’m staring into his eyes, watching as they grow hooded with desire, feeling my own do the same.

“I’m going to kiss you now, Izzy. Like I’ve been wanting to do since I saw you at the natural food store.”

Words aren’t happening for me, but my lips work. They part in anticipation. He slowly lowers his head, giving me plenty of time to pull away. Still the perfect gentleman.

But I couldn’t move away if I tried, and I don’t really want to try. All week, the tension has grown between us, even when we were apart. It’s like the first time we met, someone put a rubberband around each of us, pulling us toward each other. And with each meeting, each touch, each heat-filled glance since then, another rubberband is added until it’s impossible to step away from him.

Liam lightly brushes his mouth along mine, lips nibbling softly—the intensity almost sharper for that lack of contact. Just a tiny touch, lip to lip. But it feels like something monumental just happened.

After a few delicious moments, he steps away. My eyes blink open. I hadn’t even realized they were closed.

“I’ll call you tomorrow, Izzy.” I watch, fingers resting lightly over my mouth as he drives away.
