Chapter 14

Liam was so angry he could spit nails. Where the hell was she? One minute he opened his eyes and Emma was kissing him, and the next, she moved out of the State. He couldn’t believe she left, but here he was standing in her kitchen with her dad and her little brother. They just told him she moved away.

“Did she at least say why she moved away?”

“Because Emma blames herself that for you getting shot. She doesn’t want to put you or Axel in danger ever again.”

“That’s crazy.”

“Is it? Would you have been there that night if it wasn’t for Emma? Would you even live in New York, or would you still be living in Alabama?”

“I don’t care about any of that.”

“But Emma does.”

Liam looked at Adam, “Are you out of prison for good?”

“Yes. I’ve been out for a while, but I stayed in because I was working for the DEA. I helped them to find some big guys in the human trafficking and drugs.”

“But they didn’t catch all of them. Is that where Emma is? The mastermind and leader who runs the trafficking ring, is he the one who has Dakota?”

“Yes, he’s the leader. We think he’s out of the country with Dakota, but no one knows for sure where he is. I’m not sure where Emma went either. She’s off duty for a few months. She said something about taking a much-needed vacation. But none of us know where she went. Sage is still throwing a fit over her, not saying anything to her about leaving.”

“Where’s Skye?”

“She took off to Las Vegas. One of the girls they rescued told her some things about Dakota. It would seem the man who has Dakota won’t share her. He claims she belongs to him and he never lets her out of his sight. Dakota told the girls he has a home in Vegas and at least four other places, but they didn’t know where those places were located. And since he’s the ringleader, Skye’s boss told her to hunt him down. I think he knew Skye would do it, anyway.”

“I wonder if Emma is with her,” Liam ran his fingers through his hair as he paced back and forth in front of Adam. He didn’t know what to do. He loved Emma, and he didn’t want to lose her, but she didn’t want him. She thought she put his life in danger. He knows she loves him. He can remember hearing her tell him she loved him when he was in the hospital. That’s when she kissed him. He refused to give up on her, but there was nothing he could do right now. She had to decide for herself if she wanted to be with him.
