Galen stepped out of the void into the shadows of the city of Salvatio, the second great city of Terra. With people moving in and out of buildings, they didn’t see the young boy with the red hair pulled back walking through the alleys of their city. His golden amber eyes shining in the darkness, every reflection showing someone that wasn’t quite him.

Galen felt his pulse quicken as he came closer to the tall black tower at the center of the city. The abandoned Voidant tower stood over him like a shadow ready to crush him with the weight of knowledge that he didn’t want to believe.

For a week now he had been trying to forget all of the things that were crushing him. Trent. His Parents. These murders. The lies he had been told. The mystery of his current position. Trying to ignore all of those things had driven him to sickness. He hadn’t eaten almost anything this entire week and it was starting to show.

He needed to know if everything was true. That was his purpose here. This man who was suddenly so interested him, who was he, and what had he done? As he stepped out of the shadows of the business buildings, the filth of the alleys that he was forced to crawl through so that he wouldn’t be dragged back to where he came from.

Even from his distance away from the Voidant facility, he could see the blatant truth smeared across the wall. At the first level the windowless, doorless building was ripped open. Black soot coated the serrated mangled edges of the metal. Blood splatters caked the walls and floors around the building.

There were no gates or barriers to keep people away, but it was abandoned on every side regardless. Galen felt as if every fiber of his being had been shocked with ice. His throat almost collapsed with sorrow. Yet, he pushed himself forward, drawn into the darkness of the cave in front of him. Although there were no sounds besides those coming from the city, it seemed as if he could hear whispers coming from the pitch of the air.

In a blink he was passed the opening, and the sounds of the city fell to silence. No words. No voices. But there were. Voices were everywhere. It was as if the souls of all those who had passed in this building were still speaking, whispering. To him, and to each other. The darkness was becoming oppressive, destructive. The action that had ripped open the outside of the tower had also cut into it, deep into the bowels of the beast.

A faint yellow light shone out from Galen’s left hand, shimmering into an orb that came to rest near his shoulder as if waiting with him like an old friend. With his eyes lighted from his companion, Galen continued his push into the building. The whispers followed him becoming louder. Then. Silence. Galen took his step into the cathedral-like central spire, the sunlight bathed the room with a sickening red light.
