Dijon

The only sound Dijon heard within her subconscious was the chakra sound bath playlist she had going while she slept. She didn’t even feel the indentation of her bed when someone sat next to her, until a pair of large, strong hands shook her shoulders and roused her from her slumber. Her eyes popped open while she slid her arm under the pillow next to her head. Before she could lift her pistol, Savant’s hand was wrapping around her wrist.

“Vant!” she shrieked. “What the hell are you doing here?”

Savant released her wrist as she sat up. “I called you like thirty times and you ain’t answer the phone.”

Her eyes rolled as she clutched her chest, trying to get her rapidly beating heart to slow down. Ever since she left Vanna’s place earlier for Hassan’s party, her paranoia had been up. It was the only reason she’d slept with her pistol so close by. Dijon was praying she wouldn’t have to use it, but her brother waking her out of her sleep had given her a completely different anxiousness and fear that she needed to come down from.

“I took two gummies to get to sleep because I had a lot on my mind. Is everything okay?”

Savant nodded, looking around for the source of the sound bath that was playing. She grabbed her phone off the cream nightstand next to her bed and cut the playlist off.

“Since you weren’t answering, I thought something was wrong with you.”

Dijon smiled softly. He stood and cut her light on. “I’m good. Like I said, I had a lot on my mind and knew I wouldn’t get to sleep.”

“Is it about what was asked of you earlier?” She nodded. “You can change your mind, baby sis.”

Sighing, Dijon scratched her hair underneath her silk bonnet. “I want to do it; I just have to mentally prepare.”

“Are you sure? Because if you’re already paranoid and having to sleep with your gun under your pillow…”

“I’m fine, big bro. Really. I think, more than anything, it was Sanny’s ordeal that has had me paranoid lately. Maliya wasn’t an enemy that we saw coming. She played on his heart and feelings for her, then set him up to be killed. I can’t shake that shit, and it makes it really hard for me to get close to anyone outside of the family now.”

“I feel you. Shit, I been thinking the same way lately. But I mean, we just gotta have faith that we have the intuition to never get put in a situation like that. Sanny is usually careful as hell. Had she not mentioned a baby, she never would’ve got his address. That’s the only reason they caught him slipping.”

“You’re right,” she agreed, crossing her arms over her chest. “But what’s up, though? What were you calling for?”

“The meeting is set for your blood in blood out session. It’ll be in three days at the warehouse on Lundee. At midnight. Wear black.” She nodded. “Are you going
