Alyssa

Alyssa knew better than to read into anything that happened while the two of them ate dinner together on the patio. When the cameras were on, Carson was unfailingly charming, and it was almost possible for her to forget the fact that he so clearly didn’t want to be here with her, to say nothing of the fact that she didn’t want to be here with him.

But once shooting had stopped for the night and she was tucked into the makeshift bed she had created for herself on the couch, she returned to pondering the predicament in which she had found herself.

They were going to be on Isla Maria for a week, and so far, they’d hardly managed to exchange even a few civil words. They had argued all the time in the office, of course, but Carson argued with all his employees. This was different. She was beginning to wonder if it was personal—if he actually disliked her.

I don’t know why that matters to me. It’s not as if I like him.

It was clear to her now that she had completely misunderstood the vibe when they’d gone to dinner for their first date. It had felt like good chemistry at the time. She had guessed that they might actually be able to find a way to enjoy themselves throughout this process.

But I was wrong. He’s just a good actor.

She closed her eyes and tried to relax. One week of this. Then it would be over, and he would be out of her life forever.
