While Katie waited for Terri to change into her ski clothes, she called Elin.

“Is Daddy there?”

“Yes. Do you want to talk to him?”

“No. I just wanted to know if he’d made it yet. Is everything okay?”

“Everything’s okay here,” said Elin, “but you sound kind of weird.”

“I’m fine, honey. One more question. Is Bagman up at the cabin?”

“Adam?” said Elin. “The dude who lives above our garage?”

“Do you know a lot of people named Bagman?”

“Ha, Mom. I thought sarcasm wasn’t becoming of a young lady.”

“I’m not young. Is he there?”

“No. Why would he be here?”

“No reason. Just promise me you’ll let me know if he shows up.”

“I promise.”

“Thank you. Can’t wait to see you tomorrow. May I talk to your brother, please?”
