By closing his eyes and running toward them.
The little girl screamed
âDonât hurt my mommyâ
And held out a candy, as if to please them.
Basil Weldon hid in the closet,
Prayed aloud that they hadnât seen him.
He would tell them
He didnât witness how they slashed her
Four times in one quick motion.
He prayed, as she died, again, filled with emotion,
He was a gentle man, kindly and full of deep devotion.
Later when he phoned the police
His voice was bursting with a strange compassion.
