After the shower, I put on my clothes and went downstairs to the kitchen.

When I turned my phone back on, I found some messages from Shane, Imani, and the private detective, who was supposed to meet me today. But unfortunately, I missed the appointment.

‘Is everything alright? Can we meet?’

I replied curtly, 'sorry I was busy.'

It only took a brief moment, and he was calling me. Sighing, I answered.

“Good afternoon, Miss More; we should meet urgently.” he said in a rush.

“I’m afraid I can’t today.” My voice sounded scratchy and lifeless, just as my body felt too.

I heard Mr. Woods clear his throat. “We shouldn’t waste time. I have been permitted to go to your father’s office. And we should take advantage of this opportunity.”

“Really? And do you think you’ll find something there that might exonerate him?”

Inside me, a dark fog was closing in. The fear that Shane might become a suspect crept up inside me when I shouldn’t have cared! But the thought that he could end up in prison scared me.

God… I didn’t know what I wanted anymore; I was so upset.

“Miss More, it is important that we find evidence. And I wanted to talk to you because I found out some things. When can I come by?”

Shakily, I exhaled and stood up. “I’ll be there in twenty minutes. Meet me before the entrance, and I’ll take you inside.”

“Good, then see you soon.”

I didn’t want to go there, but I had to work to do.

Throughout the ride, I looked out the window; the town was passing me by, and I noticed the sky getting darker, a dense grey clouded it, and a few minutes later, it started to rain.

The weather matched my mood perfectly. Shitty. The cool air slapped against my cheeks as I left the car, and the rain dripped on me until I stepped up to the building.

Mr. Woods was standing in front of the door smoking a cigarette when he saw me. He wore a long coat and a hat that gave him little protection from the rain. His mustache moved with his lips as he gave me a small smile. Then he threw the cigarette in the trash can.

I just nodded at him and then opened the door.

We were greeted by the security guards, who took a close look at Mr. Woods. I signed him in and motioned him to follow me to my office.
