What a fine mess he’d gotten himself into. If only he wasn’t so, how did she put it? Cocky? Yeah, if only he wasn’t so cocky, they’d still be studying and she might even be whipping up simple spells. Probably be studying way through the chapter by now.

“Damnit!” He stormed out of the room and began walking down the road that headed into town. He needed to vent, to release some steam.

He needed to take a long walk to clear his head. To lift the weight of guilt because he knew darn well, they were waiting because he had angered her. It wasn’t because she did it herself. No. It was because he didn’t know when to shut his mouth.

The longer he walked little by little his anger faded. He’d have to apologize to her the first chance he got. He would also have to work on his temper and how easy it was to egg her on. And before he forgot, he still had to talk her into casting a spell not to dream until she passed the test.

Once he reached town, he sat on the bench outside of the ice cream shop and rested his elbows on his knees. He raked his hands through his hair. Half the day was over and he was still waiting for her to call him back. He was working against the clock by the minute. He wanted to kick himself right about now because if this happened more than a few times, they’d never make the deadline.

He wasn’t willing to let that happen. He had to make it right with her.

He couldn’t wait for her to call him back. He was going to go to her and try to get her to relax. He’d do whatever he had to do to make that happen. The longer she was away from her lessons the closer he was to becoming stuck in time for eternity.

With the wave of his hand, he was back in Melissa’s house. He looked around the room and didn’t see her. Or Liz for that matter. But the more he listened, he could hear them talking outside. So he followed the sound of their voices and walked out onto the deck to join them.
