Chapter 10

Journey

I was very excited. It had only been a week since I saw him after the basketball game, and we were going to hang out again. Ty was taking me on a tour of some of his properties to learn more about what he does. He came right on time to pick me up from the Yoga studio in his shiny black Maserati. I was so proud, but I couldn’t even brag and say who he was since I didn’t want anyone in my business, but I made them wonder.

Tammy, the busybody of the crew, yelled, “Whooo hooo, girl. That’s for yoooou?”

I looked back and smiled. “Yes, a good friend. I’ll see you guys tomorrow.”

She grunted and smiled. “Uh-huh—just a friend.”

If they only knew.

When I got outside, Ty rolled down the window and said, “Your chariot awaits.” He got out of the car and opened the door for me like the perfect gentleman. I looked back at the studio’s window, and the Yoga teachers were staring with their mouths hanging open.

“Hiiii, Ty.” I hugged him, then hopped in. The new car smell took over my senses. “Wow, this is so nice.” I rubbed my hand across the burgundy leather seats.

“Ah, thanks. One of my newest babies.”

I looked at the studio window and saw them pretending to have a conversation . . . but still staring. “Would you look at them? So damn nosy.” He looked at the window and waved to the girls, and we laughed as he sped off. He loved the attention, I could tell.

“They think you’re my date and not my dad. I didn’t tell them anything, though.”

“That’s gross,” he said in a playful Valley Girl voice.

“I know, right? So, where are we off to exactly?”

“Oh, I was thinking we check out my new building that we just finished, and then we can head to Atlantic Station to grab a bite to eat.”

“That sounds good to me.” I was overjoyed. I felt like a princess.

His phone rang, and Marlon’s name came up on the display in the car.

“Hey, what up, what up?” Marlon yelled.

“Hi, I’m in the car with Journey. Ahem,” he sarcastically cleared his throat.

“Oh, oh—so, like keep it clean? Gotcha.”

I giggled. “Hey, Marlon.”

“Heeeey, Miss Journey. How you doing, girl?”

“Great. We’re going on a little tour.”

“Oh? That’s cool. He’s showing you around? One day, I can show you some spots we have too.”

Ty chimed in. “So, what’s up, Marlon?” Marlon was a bit flirty, and Ty wasn’t having it.

“Oh, nah. My bad to intrude on Daddy and Daughter time.”

“Stop it. Cut to the chase, man.” Ty tilted his head and looked at me. I shrugged.

“I want to find out if you went to the leasing office today for Sweetwaters.”

“No, I’m actually headed there now to show Journey.”

“Cool. Stop by the office. They have a package for you. It’s kind of important.”

“All right, no problem. Thanks. Peace.”

We pulled into the oval-shaped parking lot, and the building was so beautiful. Two tall waterfalls were framing the silver, futuristic structure.
