As she walked through the front door she threw her keys onto the kitchen table and headed through to the bathroom. Gazing at her reflection, she could see how nasty the cut looked. The open wound on her lip glistened but the bleeding had stopped. She picked the delicate scab that had formed and it lifted from the skin. 'Not now,' she said. This wound was on her face. She covered it with anti-sceptic cream and began to run a bath. She dropped her clothes to the floor, determined to wash away the troubles of the day. She planned to have a nice long soak, call Olly, and then she'd imagine that the ready meal for one she had in the fridge was a gourmet meal for two. Who with? She didn't know.
As the bath water swirled around, the rose scent from her bubble bath filled the room. Stepping into the soothing water, she allowed it to wrap its warmth around her body. She reached for her phone off the toilet seat and dialled Olly's number, hoping she'd have ten minutes to chat. The phone rang out - no answer. She placed the phone back on the toilet seat and sunk her whole body under the water.
Head immersed, she heard the vibrations of a loud scraping noise coming from beneath her. Mr Bull was in. Lying silently in the bath, she listened. Again, she heard the scraping noise, it sounded like a chair scraping across the floor. Then footsteps followed. They were coming from the kitchen. She heard the cupboard door close and things being placed heavy handedly on the worktop. Maybe the Bull was cleaning she thought. Bull by name bull by nature, she laughed. Then she heard a cupboard door being opened before being slammed shut. After the cupboard closure there was no more noise. She waited for the noise to return but it didn't. The rest of the house was in silence. All she could hear were outside noises like children shouting and cars driving past.
She rested her head on the curve of the bath and closed her eyes. As she drifted off to sleep, she imagined walking through the centre of Birmingham and sitting on the wall surrounding the Floozy in the Jacuzzi. Whilst sitting on the wall, she was presented with a Mediterranean picnic. Bread, cheeses, sun dried tomatoes and olives which were strangely brought by Gary. Gary smiled at her. The sun beat down on them, it was warm and orange and everything seemed so bright. She closed her eyes. Immersed in the fantasy, she allowed him to kiss her. His mouth brushed over her neck and his touch became harder. She looked down and all she could see was the top of his head as he unbuttoned her blouse. All the passers by had gone. They were now in a field full of corn, alone. Gary undid her bra. She allowed his hand to cup her loose breasts. His head came back up to hers and he kissed her hard as he gently pushed her to the floor.
