Three Days Later

Jerry sat on the cell floor in a Yoga pose, meditating to calm his nerves. He knew the Yetis would come any moment to escort him to a fight he had little chance of winning. Jerry never considered himself a coward, but he wasn’t a fighter. Still, he was the only one in the group that stood even a tiny chance of winning the fight and securing the team’s freedom. He had hoped accepting the challenge of trial by combat would buy them enough time for help to arrive. Those hopes swiftly faded when he heard keys jingling outside his cell door.

Jerry stood up and faced the door as it opened. A Yeti knight stepped in with his arms full of armor and a Katana the length of a bow staff. The would-be warrior stepped back, slightly startled as the knight tossed the items to the floor.

“Get dressed!” the knight ordered. “You have one hour.”

Jerry knelt next to the red Samurai armor and sorted the items on the floor to determine what went where. His heart started racing at the thought of fighting a Knight of the Red Tunic. His hands shook as he picked up the breastplate and attempted to secure it to his upper torso. The armor was sized to fit a shorter but more robust Yeti. Jerry was profoundly more powerful and muscular than any human. However, he was relatively thin and unremarkable by Sasquatch standards. He knew the only way to win this fight would be through intellect rather than brute strength. Knowing he was likely living his last few moments; the finality of the situation was overwhelming his senses until he heard a calming voice come from across the hallway.

“Jerry, are you ok?” asked Rachael.

“I’m as good as can be,” Jerry replied.

“I’m so sorry you are in this position,” said Rachael as a lump formed in her throat. “This is all my fault. I brought us here, and now we’re all gonna….”

“This isn’t over yet,” Jerry assured. “I studied all of Thelma’s medical books. I know where every major artery is and every weak spot I can exploit. I just need to hit him in the right spot at the right time. There’s always a chance, no matter the odds.”

Reid cleared his throat and interjected. “When you say there’s a chance, do you mean an actual chance or Jim Carey’s ‘So you’re saying there’s a chance’ kind of chance?”

“Reid shut up!” Rachael yelled. “What the hell is the matter with you?”

“Uh, sorry,” said Reid. “We have the utmost faith in you, big guy.”

“Thanks,” said Jerry, rolling his eyes. “I better get this armor on. I’m certainly going to need it.”

An hour passed much faster than any of the prisoners would have wished. Jerry donned his ill-fitting armor as best he could, but it offered him more discomfort than protection. The breastplate fit loosely, barely covering his chest and exposing the rest of his upper torso. The armor on his legs and arms fit in the same awkward manner considering it was designed to fit a shorter and stockier ape.
