Time to Break the News

As soon as I got into my car I called Nick and gave him the bad news. "You are not going to believe it."

"What happened?"

"The judge denied his bail."

"Why? He's not a flight risk."

"I know. But that’s not how the judge and the prosecutor saw him."

"What did they say?"

"Well, they argued that Dylan shot my father over drugs. So you know, they turned their noses up when they looked at all the evidence and found out that my dad was a retired judge."

"Isn't that discrimination?"

"I don't know what it is. But I do know that they are not playing fair so Mr. Berlinsky is in the clerk's office filing a motion to appeal the judge's decision. So hopefully, Dylan will be out of jail by the end of the week."

"Did you get to see him?"

"Yes, I saw him. He smiled at me when he came into the courtroom. But when the deputy was taking him away, he looked so disappointed."

"How do you think the attorney did?"

"I felt like he could have said more in Dylan's defense. But overall, I think he did okay. The real test will come when he goes back into court for Dylan's second bail hearing."

"So what are you about to do now?"

"I'm going to run over Dylan's mother's house to check on her because Sonya called me this morning and told me that Bruce hit her again."

"Man you've got to be pulling my fucking leg right now."

"No I am not. And it gets worse."

"Whatcha' mean?"

"He gave her a fucking black eye this time."

"Oh hell no! Is that nigga crazy?!" Nick roared. "Yo Kira, don't say another word. I'm on my way and I will meet you there in fifteen minutes."

"Hold up Nick wait!" I said. But I was too late. Nick had already disconnected our call. Nick was definitely Dylan's right hand man. He loved Mrs. Daisy like she was his mother. So it really doesn't surprise me that Nick is going to pay a visit to Bruce. For Bruce's sake, I hope he's not there because shit is about to hit the fan.
