As onlookers observed Thomas’s last stand, he approached the witness box. Outfitted in an army dress uniform, since he was still active in the National Guard, he exuded confidence, honesty, and patriotism. Fine qualities Troy intended and expected the jury to interface with. Throughout his testimony, every juror was being swayed to believe some or all of his account of Mila’s accident prior to her vanishing. If cross-examination wasn’t permissible, Thomas had them convinced and in doubt about his guilt. Unfortunately the prosecutor does get a chance to cross examine the defendant. Glen was an expert when it came to manipulating whatever sort of tactic a defense lawyer employed to help their client, and went to work on undoing Troy’s strategy.

Nobel begin by commending Thomas for defending the country, which the jury concurred by nodding their heads in gratitude. Then he used that same sense of pride he helped build for Thomas as a military man, to tear the man down. He indicated that when Thomas was trained by the Army, he was taught to kill, keep his actions to himself, and clean up after himself. Turning to face the jury, Glen continued by offering how criminology had advanced since Thomas had gone through basic training. Forensic science could find bloodstains which had been cleaned away from the naked eye, as was the case at the Bertran’s residence. Video cameras throughout the city had indeed captured the defendant in route to dispose of Mila’s lifeless corpse, whereas on the battlefield an enemy was left for his countrymen to take care of. Yes, every bit of doubt Thomas establish in the minds of the jurors was converted into daggers of distain for the government trained killer. He was the same killing machine who tried to con them by wearing the uniform of respected heroes, which had each juror ready to thank Glen for exposing him for what he truly was.

In resting the defense, Troy’s confidence in the fairness of the judicial system stood to take a serious beating. He felt only a closing argument delivered by Jesus Christ himself could spare Thomas from a certain conviction. While he didn’t want to consider the trial’s outcome, the death penalty could lay in Thomas’s future. As he packed away his notes while the courtroom cleared, he replayed their entire trial through his mind. Sure, he made a few tactical errors, yet overall he believed he fought valiantly. Before he closed his briefcase, one of the bailiffs approached and complimented him on working his tail off.

“Better luck next time,” the man said, handing him a folded sheet of paper.

“Thanks, I only hope the jury believes my client,” he replied putting the note inside his briefcase without reading it.
