I can’t believe they still doubt your word. They think you’d make something like that up? When sharing what happened degrades you as a woman. They think you’d expose your private life just for the heck of it? Knowing what a mess this has caused in your family! And in town. Not to mention being rejected by men. They’ll never see you the same way again, sweetie. Forget it. That’s just how it goes.

I can’t stop thinking that the two of you split up because of all this. You could have had children together, you were happy. Then you went public and it was all over. Was he ever upset! You know what he’s like, he never said a word, but I know this ruined his life. My son loved you and all this has estranged him from his hometown. He can hardly bear to walk down the street anymore. He has to avoid the shops that your uncle frequents. He prefers to drive around in his car, hidden. He doesn’t want to come visit as often any more, not even to see his grandparents. He’s been on the losing end ever since he took your side. If it had been up to him he never would have stopped visiting us, there’s no doubt in my mind. He never would have distanced himself. That’s why I go visit him. He needs me now more than ever. And I’ll be there, like always, to protect him.
