BILLY FLIPPED ON THE faucet in the sink, waiting for the water to heat so he could go back out and clean up Steven. His stomach sank as he thought back over the intimacy they’d just shared. He’d thought he could keep his heart out of this. He’d been wrong.

He’d known when Steven had started this tonight that he had viewed this night as a last opportunity. Steven had never made it a secret that he didn’t plan to carry on a gay relationship if he had a family to consider. Well, guess what? As of today, Steven had a family.

After watching Steven with Laynie, though, Billy couldn’t even regret that. Steven had a heart that was made for a family. His immediate connection to his daughter had been obvious to every adult in that room this afternoon. And that little girl needed her daddy as much as Steven needed her. Billy couldn’t resent that.

While he hated Steven’s views on this whole situation, he could see the logic in his concerns. He might not agree with how Steven had chosen to approach being gay, but Billy didn’t have a right to force his own beliefs on Steven.

He just wished they’d had a little bit more time together before all this had happened. But they did have tonight. And this might be all they ever had. So, Billy wouldn’t regret it. He couldn’t. Especially not after having such epic sex with Steven. Never in his entire life had Billy come so hard. But it wasn’t his body reacting now. It was his heart.

And now, he needed to go take care of his man. If they only had one night, Billy would give him everything he could.

He wet the washcloth with warm water and stepped back into the bedroom.

The light from the bathroom shone over the planes of Steven’s back. He didn’t look like he’d moved since Billy had left him. Fucked out was a good look for him. Billy’s dick twitched trying to revive with interest, but he had a few years on Steven and he definitely wasn’t up for that yet.

From across the room, Billy could hear Steven’s labored breaths. Fuck. Flat on his stomach was not conducive to healing his injury.

Billy rushed over to the side of the bed and gently shook Steven’s shoulder. “Steven, wake up. We need to get you situated better for sleeping.”

“Am good.” Steven waved a hand at Billy. “You fucked and relaxed me.”

Billy smiled, but couldn’t ignore that wheezing sound. “Nope. Come on, sleeping beauty. Give me two minutes, and I’ll let you go back to sleep.”

When Steven showed no signs of moving, Billy dropped the wet washcloth on his ass. He needed to clean him up anyway and the shock of the wet washcloth would get him moving.

Steven cursed and slowly levered up, his slow movements a testament to how far he’d pushed his body today. First, the seven hours in the truck, the sex, and then this. No wonder Steven was practically passed out from exhaustion.
