Olga

She had been George’s girlfriend from her junior year in high school until he left for the Navy. Now she is going with Dmitri (to whom she is distantly related), although there were several passionate if transitory romances in the interim. Olga, with her blond pig tails, works in the flower shop her parents manage for an absentee owner, not far from where they all live. The shop’s success is significantly dependent on the many Russians who live in that part of San Francisco, because they maintain the old world custom of always having a vase of flowers in the living room and of bringing a bunch when they visit relatives and friends.
