Joe recalled that in the early part of 1947, when he was in the Christie Street Hospital in Toronto undergoing treatment that was meant to help him walk again, he got a call from Kathleen MacDonald, by then Mickey’s legally-married wife, who he didn’t even know. She asked if he needed anything, if she could do anything to help him. This might have been because Kathleen knew Uly, Joe’s buddy, and her husband, Mickey, were by then working on a project together.
