Took longer than anticipated to finish this, but am sending it now so you’ll have it first thing Monday morning. I realize you’re swamped and it’s a lot to ask, but any priority you could give this would be greatly appreciated. Everything is in place to move forward, but my hands are tied without the additional funds. I also just left you a voice mail message regarding same to cover all my bases, just in case cyberspace somehow swallows my e-mail. Looking forward to hearing from you.

When she finished reading, she snatched up her phone and accessed her voice mail which advised her she had one new message, received at 8:16 p.m. this evening. With her heart pounding in the most absurd fashion, she gripped the receiver tightly and listened. Jackson’s smooth, deep voice filtered into her ear, saying almost word for word what he’d stated in his e-mail. Her eyes drifted closed, and a vivid image of him materialized behind her eyelids. Tall, handsome, a teasing smile tilting the corners of his lovely mouth, his blue eyes gleaming with mischief and desire. When the message ended she replaced the receiver and worried her bottom lip, debating the wisdom of what she was considering.

“What the hell,” she muttered, and snatched up the receiver. What did she have to lose except a few more hours of sleep? Besides, didn’t she owe him a favor? After all, he’d lit the fuse she’d wanted ignited so much. Really, if she thought about it, she’d ruthlessly used him for sex then shoved him out the door. Definitely very un-Southern-hospitality-like of her.

Her better judgment sternly informed her she was rationalizing, but her heart wasn’t listening.

She dialed Jackson’s New York office number quickly, before she had time to change her mind.
