Chapter Nine

Cameron found himself standing in front of three very large men as they stood staring back at him.

He studied each of the men and saw the President’s patch on one of their vests. He looked up at him and asked, “Jedidiah Hawkins?”

Hawkins nodded. “I am, are you Meran?”

Cameron stared at him through amber colored eyes. “I am.”

Hawkins nodded. “Your eyes tell me you’re related to Wren but I don’t know anything else about you.”

“Wren?” Cameron questioned. “Ben named his daughter Solana.” Then he looked disgusted. “She was not named for a small, annoying little bird.”

“Yeah, well that little annoying bird as you call it... saved her life.” Hawkins snorted.

“Can I see her?” Cameron asked.

“Not just yet, son. I need to know what you plan to do with her.” Hawkins stared back at him.

Cameron stiffened and glared at him. “That is none of your business, old man.”

“It is if you want to see your niece right now.” Hawkins crossed his arms over his chest. “She’s inside my clubhouse and you ain’t been invited inside yet.”

Cameron narrowed his eyes at him. “Do you have any idea of who I am old man?”

Hawkins nodded. “Yeah, I know who you are. I know who your family is too and you know what? You people don’t mean squat to me. We rescued that little girl from Isobel’s place and she’s under our protection. Isobel may be her mother and I have to admit that but you? You ain’t nothing to her at this moment. You don’t even know her or her story. So until you can tell me what you want with her you ain’t gonna see her.”

Cameron growled and ran his hands over the back of his neck, glaring at the three men standing there, standing guard. “You said something earlier about how my brother was shot and left for dead. How do you know that?”

“The woman that took Wren home with her told her that Then years later, the police came back to talk to them. We’ve found newspaper articles that told the story of what they found. It was your brother who died that day. Wren was about three months old when she had been found in her father’s arms. Marie found her and took her home. She cared for her and loved her like a mother should.”

“Are you sure it was Ben that died that day?” Cameron insisted.

Cash took a piece of paper from his vest pocket and handed it to the other man. “This was the tattoo on his left wrist.”

Cameron’s hands shook as he unfolded the paper and stared at the Meran design... the family coat of arms, something they all had. All of them had it and so did their cousins, it was a Meran tradition.

He dropped his hand while holding the paper to his side and shook his head. “It was Ben alright. Damn, why didn’t the police contact us? We never knew, or found anything stating what happened to them, Ben, Bella, and the baby. We had our own thoughts but we didn’t know for sure.
