Chapter Six

“And Jordan Miller?” Pepper asked. “How does he fit into all this shit?”

“That’s a man burning the candle on both ends.” Archer shook his head. “He knew he was being watched since the day he patented the chemical formula that would make the bombs he designed ten times more powerful. The Thorn group wanted that knowledge but once Jordan found out why they wanted it, he refused to have anything to do with them. That’s when they found his wife and kid. Jordan wasn’t even living with them most of the time, he was holed up in a secret lab, but they found his family anyway.” He stared at Shay and shook his head. “They killed his wife and he got to Shoney before the Thorn group did. He tried to hide her but they found him again. He told her to run to save her from being taken. He had no idea it would take him years to find her. If you want more, you’ll have to find him and ask him.”

“Oh, you can be sure we will do just that.” Pepper stated.

Shay narrowed his eyes and stared at Archer for a moment before he asked, “Did he know the Thorn was tracking his car? That we found a tracker on Shoney?”

Archer swore under his breath. “I’ll bet it was that douchebag Marko Lindo. He’s been trying to trip Jordan up for some time now. But when did they track Shoney?”

Shay shook his head. “She thinks it was after she met someone named Jamie. She was sick and Jamie was taking care of her. She was maybe eleven at the time and when she woke up enough she said she had a bandage on her arm in the same place we found the chip.”

“So the Thorn has known where she was this whole time?” Archer shook his head. “And who is this Jamie person?”

“Do you know who Jordan had watching over his daughter?” Dax asked.

Archer turned and stared at him and nodded slowly. “Yeah, he had me watching over her but I stayed out of the way. I thought the woman she was seen with as a kid was someone she knew.” Shaking his head he admitted, “I was gone a lot around that time and I wasn’t there when they met.”

“She and Jamie were together for about four years,” Pepper explained. “You must have been gone a lot during that time.”

“Hey, I had other people watching her while I was gone. I didn’t just leave her out there on her own.” Archer snarled.

“But whoever this Jamie was, she was able to get close to her for four years.” Ace glared at him.

Pepper nodded and growled at Archer.

Looking angry now, Archer took a step toward him.

Pepper held up his hands and took a step back. “I’m not the one you need to apologize to, buddy.”

“Is she okay?” Archer asked. “I saw one of you rescue her from that prick that was trying to force her into the truck.”

Shay nodded.
