Chapter 11
The day had gone, and the sun had set. The rest of the afternoon passed slowly but without incident. Damian, Ginny, and I had hung out in Ginnyâs small apartment playing nearly every card game known to man.
As soon as the sun disappeared behind the trees, I excused myself to go find Banning. He had promised me some answers two nights ago, and I wanted them.
By the time I got to his room, he was already gone. I realized with annoyance the house was enormous enough that it could take me all night to track him down. It was nothing more than luck that I ran into Orion, who informed me Banning tended to use the shower at the end of the hall as soon as he awoke.
After thanking him, I marched to the bathroom door and found it locked. Assuming Banning was inside, I leaned against the wall opposite the door and crossed my arms over my chest. I would wait for him if I had to. I had nothing better to do with my time now that the outside world was overrun with the walking dead.
Twenty minutes later, when the door opened amidst a cloud of hot steam, Banning jumped at the sight of me. Startling a vampire should have been harder than that. Didnât they have supernatural senses? âIâve had stalkers before,â he teased, âbut this is kind of crazy.â
I simply raised an eyebrow at him. âWe need to talk.â
Banning ran a towel over his head, drying out his long, thick hair. âThat is never a good thing. Okay. I know youâre not having my baby, and I donât owe you any money.â His face brightened. âAre you horny?â
âNo,â I said darkly, feeling slightly insulted he thought Iâd wanted him for a booty call.
Banning held a hand up to ward off my angry look. âIt was just a joke. Sorry.â He ran a hand through his still damp hair to brush out a few tangles. âWhat do you need?â
âI want some answers. You promised to tell me more the other night. You said we could talk, but it had to be alone.â
Banningâs lip curled into a wicked grin. âSo you want to spend time alone with me? Sounds like a booty call in the making.â
I stared coldly at him, daring him to continue. How did a vampire know the phrase booty call anyway?
Banning gave a sigh of resignation. âFine. Letâs go to my room so we can be alone.â He said the last two words in a tone dripping with double meaning.
I fought the urge to give him another dirty look. I forced my countenance to stay impassive and followed after him. I wanted something from him. I couldnât afford to be so sensitive.
Banningâs room was the next one down after Arielâs. Though room was an understatement. These rooms were more like large, very expensive apartments. Each dwelling had at least three rooms off of them that could only be reached through the main entrance.
Banningâs place was amazing.
