“Call them,” I said. “Find out where they want to meet.”

“You look exhausted, Hayden,” Stephana said. “You need some rest.”

“No,” I said. “I can't waste any time.”

“How long has it been since you've slept?” Aurora asked. “Really slept?”

I tried to remember, but I couldn't. I shook my head.

“It doesn't matter,” I said. “I need to keep going.”

“No, Hayden,” Stephana said. “You need to get some rest. You're running on adrenaline and rage right now, and that's not enough to keep you going. Eventually, you're going to crash, and that could be dangerous. You need to get some sleep, and we'll try to find you a trainer in the morning.”

I didn't want to give in. Every moment was important. Wasting even a second felt like it could derail me and push me further away from accomplishing what I needed to. But I could feel the exhaustion weighing on me. I knew I would be much more effective if I let my body and my mind rest for a while. I also knew if these three women had gotten it into their minds that I needed sleep, they weren't going to let me get out of it. It would be easier to just go along with it than it would be to argue.

“Fine,” I said. “I'll sleep.”

“Good,” Stephana said. “The three of you will stay here. You're already here, and it's safer than trying to go anywhere else. Hayden, you can go to the same room as before. Ashe, Aurora can stay in the guest room beside yours.”

“Thank you,” Aurora said. “I appreciate your hospitality.”

“It's the least I can do,” Stephana said. “We need each other more than ever now.”

Ashe and Aurora each came up and kissed me goodnight before heading further into the house to go to bed. I said goodnight to Stephana and went into the bedroom where I had napped the first time I had come there. A fresh pair of sweatpants was draped across the end of the bed.

“I thought I'd be ready for you. Just in case.”

I turned around and saw Stephana standing at the doorway. I looked down at the pants in my hands and smiled at her.

“Thanks. I really appreciate it. All of it. Everything you've done for me.”

“It's nothing,” she said, shaking her head.

“Of course, it is,” I said. “I wouldn't be here right now if it wasn't for you.”

She narrowed her eyes and tilted her head.

“I would hope you wouldn't be hanging around in my house if it wasn't for me,” she said. “I think that would indicate a problem.”

I laughed.

“You know what I mean.”

She smiled.

“I know,” she said. Her eyes dropped to the sweatpants in my hands. “Aren't you going to change?” she asked.

“Um,” I said, glancing down again. “Yeah, I was just…”

“Too tired?” she asked. Her voice had dropped slightly. “Here, let me help you.”

She pushed away from the frame and came into the room, closing the door behind her. Her gaze traced my body as she approached, and her hands reached for the button on my pants.
